GO TO KARAOKE SONG
I actually haven’t done karaoke since my 21st bday (oof, it’s been a while)! I will sing in front of my friends all day any day, but I think the microphone throws me off/makes me shy. Or maybe it’s the whole ‘in front of strangers’ thing. When I get back out there in the karaoke game, it’s definitely going to be ‘What’s Up?’ By 4 Non Blondes or ‘Mr. Brightside’ by The Killers.
HOW DO YOU MAINTAIN A POSITIVE ATTITUDE/ARE YOU ALWAYS HAPPY?
I work really hard to only say kind things in my mind. About others, about myself, about the situation I’m in. Gratitude is a huge part of this, as is reframing my mindset. I do always try to find the good in the bad. Am I always happy? HELL NO NO ONE IS. We all know- social media is a highlight reel, and I absolutely struggle with anxiety and pretty bad seasonal depression. Shout out to my red light therapy lamp! I plan to talk more about this and keep it pretty real. We’re in this together, anxious, SAD folks!
FUNNY FASHION MOMENT
This could probably be a blog post in itself! Most recently, I was driving (I am a suburban granny driver, btw) leaving a Christmas party, with my family in the car behind us- and when we all pulled up at my parent’s house, they were laughing hysterically. My obnoxious dress was hanging out the car door the whole drive home.
NOSTALGIC MOVIES OF CHOICE
I don’t think anyone likes the movie It’s Complicated more than me. I can’t explain my affinity. I just love it! LOL I also watch The Proposal and Crazy, Stupid, Love over and over. It’s painful trying to pull me out of the rom-com territory.
FAVORITE CANDY
My sweet tooth is outrageous. Sour gummy worms rock my world. I will eat them until my tongue falls off. Specifically, the Trolli mini ones.
WHY ARE YOU STARTING A BLOG?
I’ve spent years talking myself out of it because I’ve somehow convinced myself that no one wants to hear from me. I don’t fit the perfectly polished, clean girl aesthetic, I don’t have this, I don’t have that- I talked myself out of this for literal years. Until one day, recently. After listening to the Dr. Andrew Huberman podcast featuring Rick Rubin (if you don’t know who this is- he is a creative mastermind behind a lot of the music we listen to and more!), my whole perspective changed. He said:
‘Treat everything you create as a diary entry. Don’t create for the outcome. You wouldn’t care what people think about your diary, right?’
Create to create. Not the outcome. After that, my perspective was absolutely flipped upside down. So, here are my diary entries that maybe I can inspire you with!
FAVORITE NEIGHBORHOOD IN CHICAGO
Logan Square has a special place in my heart. I’ve lived in Lincoln Park (Shoutout Clifton HQ), Wrigleyville (RIP to apartment above the Blarney Stone), Lakeview, Wicker Park, the heart of Logan Square. I threaten to leave Chicago every winter, but the reality is I love it here too damn much.
WORDS YOU LIVE BY
To me the phrase, ‘look good, feel good’- is of great importance. Your internal wellbeing can affect your appearance- and vice versa. Obviously what you eat and do impacts how you feel- rather directly. But there is also so much power in clothing, accessories, colors, and how that can make you feel.
COFFEE OR TEA?
An iced matcha latte with a little lavender, vanilla and oat milk is the best thing to me. Second runner up is an Earl Grey latte. I don’t regularly vibe with coffee- haven’t for a couple years. Makes me a little ~hyper~(read: ANXIOUS). I love the smell of coffee though, and I will occasionally indulge if I am in Italy! My friend Mari also makes the best tiramisu- and I absolutely eat that!
Shoutout Clifton HQ!!!!! Also- I gotchu on the Trolli hookup!!
Omg!!!!! Dom, I forget you are queen of the gummy worms! 💗💗💗
