Those who know me know I have fallen victim to the winter blues- worse this year than previous years. I’ve started to build up my own little tool kit with things that help me out during the darkness of January and February. Red lights, supplements, self tanner… I probably need a post on this soon!
Something tried and true that has helped me fight the seasonal ick over the last couple years has been actually getting myself dressed. It doesn’t have to be a blazer or something fancy- just something FUN and COZY. A warm hug.
Outfits can be so powerful. You can let yourself have a shitty day with a shitty attitude, wearing a shitty pair of sweatpants from 5 years ago. But, if you start having a shitty day with a shitty attitude, and you put on an outfit that you like… you may surprise yourself and be able to turn your day around.
We’ve all heard, “dress for the job you want” or some variation on that- I believe this isn’t that different. Dress for the kind of day you want to have! If you’re going to lay low and be sulk about the winter, then fine- wear your sweatpants from high school PE- you do you! (We’ve all been there. Everyone need a comfort outfit! 😂) But if you want to take the reins of your day, turn this shit around, and feel good- here’s a little tip for you:
- Infuse little doses of cheerful color into your wardrobe.
- This can can be an absolute GAME-CHANGER. I am not saying you need to go full blown Farm Rio if that is not your vibe, but you don’t know what is or isn’t your vibe unless your try… right?
- If you are crawling in your skin thinking about wearing too much color, might I recommend a colorful outfit starter pack:
- Begin with a colorful beanie and/or scarf, with an all black or all cream outfit to test the waters. A neutral outfit with a little red beanie can be SO cute. Give it a try, and tag me if you do! 😊
Shop some of my favorite beanies right now:
Alice and Wonder Mad Hatter Ribbed Knit Beanie
Comes in so many cute colors- awesome brand local to Chicago!
This is a warm one and is on sale!!
Love this pop of spicy red!
Acne Studios Face Patch Wool Beanie
This is a little bit of a pricey beanie, but they are the warmest, thickest statement piece that you will have for years to come!
If you’re not sold on color (yet), try a pattern/texture! Anything that will get you out of that same sweatshirt you have been wearing all week.(Alex, please read this! 😂) Pattern and/or texture can really elevate an outfit- even if it’s just for a cozy night in watching Modern Family re-runs. To me, there is no better feeling than getting a new fleece jacket or Sherpa cozy sweatshirt.
For when you want to be cozy but cheery, and comfy but stylish- I have curated some ‘anything but basic’ fleeces/cozies to carry you through the rest of the winter:
I’ve shared this one before because I adore it- and it’s on sale, baby!!!!
